2020… Ah memories of Thanksgiving Past (Updated Version)

Ah, the thought of Thanksgiving.

After the insane year that we will forever remember as “2020”, many of us are already thinking about the family gathering to celebrate the blessings we have had. Yes, even in the face of this insidious Chinese Communist disease, babies were born, people accomplished things and we all faced adversity together.

So the joy of a family celebration with mounds of golden mashed potatoes crowned with gravy next to a pile of cranberry’s and stuffing and a healthy slice or two of the king of birds is indeed a welcome cause for Thanksgiving. Around you rush children laughing and singing, glasses of wine and sparkling apple cider are shimmering in the candlelight, and the family collectively groans at the end after eating way too much.

On the TV, traditional parades and football games are the glue that hold the family together. Thoughts of Black Friday shopping fill the heads of many of the women while the men settle in to a round of adult beverages and cigars.

But wait. This is 2020. Forget all that crap.

The parades are canceled. Everything is virtual which means nothing is actually happening. There is a high likelihood that no football games will be allowed to play on that weekend. Your Black Friday experience will be choked by mask restrictions and regulations beyond belief. That is if the stores haven’t been emptied by looters by now.

Along the way, the State of California gets a pre-holiday surprise by their leftist governor.

Here are some mandatory highlights:

  • “All gatherings must be held outside.”
  • “Gatherings that include more than 3 households are prohibited.”
  • “As much as possible, any food or beverages at outdoor gatherings must be in single-serve disposable containers. If providing single-serve containers is not possible, food and beverages must be served by a person who washes or sanitizes their hands frequently, and wears a face covering.”

And here are some recommendations and concessions:

  • Attendees may go inside to use restrooms as long as the restrooms are frequently sanitized.”
  • “Gatherings should be two hours or less.”
  • “The host should collect names of all attendees and contact information in case contact tracing is needed later.”

Some excerpts from one writer on the Daily Signal:

What does this mean for your Thanksgiving feast? Let’s review.

Eat outside. Whether you live in Palm Springs (where the high on Thanksgiving was 92 degrees three years ago) or Bishop (where the Thanksgiving high was 30 degrees last year), you must eat outside.

Revealingly, poor Californians (particularly minorities) suffer the most, living as many do in dense apartment complexes, near homeless havens, or in localized pollution zone. But rich Californians who spread banquets on their manicured lawns behind high fences suffer right along with them.

No more than three households. If you and your two siblings visit your folks for Thanksgiving, it’s illegal. If you invite over your parents, in-laws, and an international student, it’s illegal. If you celebrate “Friendsgiving” with three other singles, it’s illegal.

Oh yeah. No singing. or if you do sing, double your mask strength and sing quietly. You know. Like Crazy Uncle Bernie used to do…

Yes, I get it that the Communist Chinese Virus is making another round. Yes, I get it that we need to exercise caution. But frankly people, in Five Days you will decide if this kind of draconian dark winter will be our permanent future.

UPDATED COMMENTS:

I try to steer clear of politics since it is such a sensitive subject anymore.

But this memory popped up today and it made me think about the crazy journey the country has been on in the past five years.

I pray that your Thanksgiving is just like the ones you remember from the past.

The Radical Socialists get complete control when you are afraid.

And once the have control, what makes you think they will ever let go?
