You may have noticed that I have not been posting much for the past few weeks.
Sorry for that. It has been a challenging time for many of us as the country makes its transition to a new government. I guess time will tell how well that goes. On the plus side for us, we replaced our forty year old windows this year with brand new Andersen Replacements. The house feels so much better now.
Health wise, we are doing okay. I am not yet old enough to fit in the first round of vaccines so we are continuing to stay relatively isolated from most gatherings. I am looking forward to the new era of post-Covid as much as anyone but do not want to lose the race just before we get to the finish line.
There are many new and exciting things coming for the Navy and the groups I support. A number of the new submarines (Virginia Class) will have Historic names that honor World War 2 submarines.
Pittsburgh will have a new ship named after her as well. Although not a submarine, I was reminded that most of the times the City was honored, they were surface ships. So its not breaking any long tradition to have a ship named Pittsburgh versus a submarine.
The first vessel named after Pittsburgh was an ironclad gunboat used during the American Civil War. The second USS Pittsburgh, armored cruiser, was used during World War I and another ship, a Baltimore class cruiser, supported the landing at Iwo Jima during World War II. The fourth USS Pittsburgh was a Los Angeles class submarine used from December 1984 to August 2019.
USS San Francisco MTS 711
The USS San Francisco has mostly completed her transition to a Moored Training Ship and will be in Charleston for the rest of her life. I have it on my bucket list to go there sometime in the next year. The trip will be a dual trip since I am also hoping to have my book ready to sell and Captain Cassin Young’s family has a memorial plot there where his wife’s remains are resting. The trip will be part of my marketing approach since Charleston is also the home of the Medal of Honor Museum.
I know its been a rough year. Loss of family and friends have touched each and every one of us.
I am still grieving the loss of my Mom and one of my best friends, But we persevere and we move forward despite all of these things.
